The Founders' Circle
Lew and Arlene Fine have been active in Park City community life for years, as founders of the Park City Jazz Festival and involved in the Sundance Film Festival and the Park City Arts Festival. They turned their attention towards community health when Arlene, as a member of the Interfaith Council, heard about the plight of those who had come to work in our community and were in many cases living hand-to-mouth, with no options for care when they were sick. Arlene says, "There were so many people in need - when you find out, you do something." In those early days one of the big challenges was finding a way to serve people from the outlying areas, people who would be hard pressed to find their way into Park City for care. "When we got the van with the help of the Eccles family; that was a great help. The medical volunteers would drive around Wasatch and Summit Counties, park the van where someone had offered their lobby as a waiting room, and see the patients in the van." Programs that are established at the Clinic now - pharmacy partnerships, a list of doctors who will accept Clinic patients at lower cost by referral - were hard-fought. "Getting doctors to volunteer, finding people who could translate, finding a place to park the van - every step was like climbing a mountain!" says Lew. People's Health Clinic is so grateful for our founding mothers and fathers. We encourage you to join their legacy by supporting PHC.
