We’re proud to announce that Sheila Jackson has joined the Development team at People’s Health. As Director, she will expand development efforts, connecting donors, partners, and community support. Sheila comes to us from Washington State, with a strong background in nonprofit fundraising and communications (read bio on our staff page). Sheila says, “I am so happy to be a part of the Park City community and working to strengthen support and grow resources for the Clinic.”
The entire clinic staff, especially the rest of the Development team of part-timers Sarah Klingenstein, Jenny Dorsey and Terry Moffitt welcome Sheila and are enjoying their new work together.

We had so much going on……….thanks especially to Bill White Enterprises for presenting the Silver Queen Derby Luncheon with style!
Anyone driving by Grappa on July 17th around noontime caught a glimpse of 110 local ladies lunching on the patios in the sunshine, all in hats from the simple to the outrageous. Thanks to all the friends who came to dine and support the work of PHC.
The Food and Wine Classic came to PC on a gorgeous July weekend. The Grand Tasting and the Main Street Stroll both hit new heights in attendance. We’re so grateful for the portion of those proceeds that will be coming to the Clinic. And the Gourmet Travel Club’s Savoury Sundowners seminar for PHC was oversold and so much fun – if you missed it, look for something enticing next year.
WE WON SECOND PRIZE IN OUR CATEGORY IN THE PC FOURTH OF JULY PARADE. SO PROUD! Watch a video here! Now we’re off to prance in the Wasatch and Summit County parades in the next few weeks – still looking for volunteers! Email Patti.

What do we do when a patient’s needs require more than what PHC can offer?
~Electrocardiogram for a patient with chest pain ~ MRI for a persistent shoulder problem ~
~Cancer treatment ~ Financial assistance for expensive medications ~
PHC staff and volunteer doctors and their patients would be very disheartened if there were no good resources when needs like these came up. So Mariely Ferrer, PHC Clinic Coordinator, spends a good part of each day making things happen for patients. And not only does she locate the service, but she helps patients qualify if a financial need must be shown. In the first quarter of 2011, 247 referrals were made for PHC patients.

The 2011 Spring Cocktail Contest is History but there’s “No Thyme Like the Present”
This year’s winning cocktail is called just that – “No Thyme Like the Present” – created by Shabu bartender Jeff Ferguson. See the winning recipe here.
Each year, this rousing competition and party has been put on by the Park City Area Restaurant Association to benefit PHC, where so many restaurant employees seek medical care. This year’s donation is over $1200. And this year, for the first time, a second contest will be held in October to select a winter drink.
Great thanks to Deer Valley for hosting the event at Edgar’s Beer and Spirits.

New, Not-so-new Doctor John Hanrahan Back at PHC
One of the founders of the Clinic, Dr. Hanrahan was active for many years as Volunteer Medical Director, Volunteer Executive Director, and Board member. After several years’ hiatus, John rejoined the Board of Directors in 2007 where he has served until he recently joined the Clinic staff. John is enjoying his reacquaintance with the Clinic side of PHC. “The care we can provide in this amazing facility is wonderful to be a part of. And our growing relationship with IHC, which allows us to help patients beyond our walls with tests and specialist visits, has had an enormous impact.”

Families from three local preschools clean out their toddler bookshelves for our Reach Out and Read Program.
Some kids’ homes are filled with bright and educational books – others’ are not. And that can make all the difference in a child’s future. That’s why PHC began giving a book away to every child that comes through our Clinic doors. And Soaring Wings Montessori School, Park City Cooperative Preschool, and Shining Stars Preschool have put out the call for children to pass on their old favorites as new books for another child in the community. Thanks!!

A Tale of Persistence and Collaboration
It’s fitting that Bill and Nan Hjelm first got to know the Clinic in its mobile van days, because the road they’ve traveled with PHC has led them to a healthier, happier destination.
Nan suffered from seizures since she was 18. While Bill served in the military, they had good healthcare, but never felt the doctors got a complete handle on her illness. Between the seizures and awful side effects of various medications, life was rough. Once out of the service, they found themselves facing the same medical issues, but with no medical insurance.
Bill started working part-time driving the PHC van around the Park City and Heber area. As he helped with check in, he noticed how well the doctors treated each patient. He encouraged
